Summary: This is the first of a five-part series covering insights from Tony Robbins’ Unleash the Power Within in Los Angeles on March 14-17, 2019. We will publish each section every two days. Be sure to stick around for the shocking conclusion in Part 5 – you are not going to want to miss it!
Have you ever been stuck at a crossroads and are not sure which direction to go?
That’s exactly how we felt before attending Tony Robbins’ four-day event called Unleash the Power Within.
But before we describe our decision point, let us take you back a little over two years ago.
Life was good.
We had just sold our second start-up in two years. Our real estate portfolio had grown to the point that the cashflow from our properties more than covered our living expenses. We had achieved financial freedom.
With our new found freedom, we did exactly what you’d imagine.
We took a year off to travel. We pursued hobbies: hiking, writing, and more travel. We spent uninterrupted, quality time with our kids.
But while our adventures over the last two years kept us busy and excited, underneath we were at an impasse.
We had worked hard to achieve semi-retirement, yet, the thought of slowing down left us feeling unsettled. We didn’t really know why, but it just didn’t feel right. And yet, we didn’t really have an answer for why we would want to continue to push ourselves either. We were stuck.
We grappled with what to do between the two of us. We asked ourselves questions like: should we should continue to grow our real estate portfolio? Should we start a blog? Should we continue to work as physicians? We tried to re-arrange our goals. We started reading more books, looking for ideas.
We also sought advice from friends and family. Most of the people around us told us to relax; don’t take any risks; and enjoy your new found freedom. And after we decided to start this blog, they asked us why we were still working so hard. We didn’t need to do it, they said.
This was the crossroads – something felt missing.
And this led us to last week’s conference.
If you’ve ever read any of Tony Robbins’ books or watched I am not your guru on Netflix, you know that he is in the business of transforming lives. You’ll also know that his reach and influence are widespread. He has counseled the likes of Bill Clinton, Oprah, Michael Phelps, Serena Williams, Nelson Mandela, Leonardo DiCaprio, Princess Diana and Mother Theresa, just to name a few.
I knew enough about Tony Robbins to be intrigued by the idea of attending one of his conferences, but I’ll be honest, I wasn’t too excited when Leti started pushing me to go to his next event. But, despite my reluctance, she persisted.
So what was it that caused her to push us so hard to attend this event?
I think she intuitively knew that we were at a crossroads. And something inside of her told her that Tony Robbins might just give us the direction we needed.
So she signed us up. Even though I agreed to go, I was still a little apprehensive.
On the day of the conference, I asked Leti, “do you think this conference will meet our expectations, exceed our expectations or be below expectations?”
We both agreed the meeting would probably only “meet our expectations.”
How did we actually feel after the four days?
The event FAR exceeded our expectations.
Even more important, the meeting gave us exactly what we needed. We came out of the meeting energized and invigorated. We had clear direction. We knew which road we needed to take.
Not only that, we met some amazing people and walked away with lifelong friendships.
Let me tell you that if you want to surround yourself with the most motivated AND highest achieving people in the world, you’ll find them at a Tony Robbins event.
I’m extremely thankful that I trusted Leti and her intuition about Tony Robbins. Just like she trusted me when I suggested that we make the next leap of faith – something that is going to sound crazy and scary at the same time. Stay tuned because we’ll reveal what that is in Part 5 of this series.
In the meantime, part two, where we cover the importance of growth and contribution in your life, will be released on Monday!
Have any of you attended a Tony Robbin’s event?
Did it meet or exceed your expectations?
