Financial Residency with Ryan Inman
July 30, 2019 – Risk and Reward: Learning How To Become Time Rich with Work-Life Integration
In this episode, guest speaker Dr. Taylor Brana talks about the concept of “time wealth” and how to become “time rich.” Basically, it involves treating time the same way you treat money–if you want to be in control of it, you have to ask yourself where you’re spending it and where you’d like to be spending it.
Dr. Brana has several methods for becoming time rich, and he advocates work-life integration as opposed to work-life balance. Whereas the latter implies you have to divide your time evenly between many different things, the former involves implementing systems that optimize the hidden free time in your schedule so you can do more of the things you want to do.
The bottom line of Dr. Brana’s method is, it’s not about being perfect and always having all the free time you want–it’s about taking small steps to increase productivity and track where your time goes so you can spend more time doing the things you value most and that make you the happiest.
It’s really an amazingly simple mindset, and it will really open your eyes not only to just how easily time can slip away, but also how easily you can gain control of it again. Check it out!
The Tony Robbins Podcast
Nov 22, 2018 – Do You Want To Be Happy? with Michael Singer
In this episode, Tony and his wife, Sage, interview Michael Singer, author of The Untethered Soul: The Journey Beyond Yourself. This is Kenji’s all-time favorite episode of any podcast for a number of reasons.
First, Michael dives into what holds people back from being happy and how happiness has nothing to do with external circumstances, yet everyone builds their idea of happiness around the external: good experiences, their idea of what life should be, wealth, success. But it doesn’t have anything to do with any of that–it has everything to do with your mind.
Second, he doesn’t just talk about why people are happy or unhappy, but how to access the mind and change the way you perceive events, letting go of the little things and making the most out of life. He talks about the nature of reality and the ability to surrender control in a way that will totally blow your mind.
There’s so much more to this podcast, and if we listed everything we learned from it, we’d be here all day. Go listen to it–you won’t be disappointed!
Bigger Pockets
Episode 297 – Mastering the Decision Making Process with Annie Duke
Although Bigger Pockets focuses primarily on real estate investing, this episode is all about decision making.
One key point is to examine good and bad decisions to see what you can learn. Along those lines, if you have a bad outcome, it doesn’t mean your decision-making was flawed. So don’t judge decision-making by outcome–sometimes you just have bad luck. This is an important concept for rentals, where sometimes you make a decision and have an unexpected outcome.
Another key concept is to surround yourself with really good people who keep you accountable and don’t let you take the victim mentality. Instead, those people help you learn from your mistakes and analyze what went wrong in your decision-making process so that you make better decisions next time.
These are powerful tools not only for business and for real estate investing, but for life in general. You may have to listen to this one a few times because it is packed with mind-blowing information.
The Life Coach School with Brooke Castillo
Episode #1 – Why You Aren’t Taking Action
The main idea of this groundbreaking episode is that if you want real, lasting change in your life, it all starts in the mind. People tend to try to control their circumstances, but the fact is, circumstances are not in their control.
What is in a person’s control, however, are their thoughts, feelings, and actions. As Brooke puts it, your thoughts create your feelings, your feelings drive your actions, and your actions control your results.
If you want to change something in your life, you have to start by changing your thoughts. You have to understand yourself before you can change yourself, and it takes time. It’s a habit you have to build.
This episode will blow your mind and totally change your perspective on life, if you let it. It’s so simple in ways, yet so powerful!
If you want more, her episode on time management and calendaring, Throw Away Your To-Do List, is also excellent.
We realize this is a short list, but we wanted to limit the list to only the best podcast episodes for building your investing mindset, the ones worth listening to over and over. These are the podcasts that will help you reach your potential and find success as a real estate investor.
Were you as blown away by any of these podcast episodes as we were? Are there any mindset-building podcast episodes that you would recommend? We’d love to hear about them!
